Chicago Wind Nationals 4, Edison Park 2 The Wind had terrific ball movement and controlled time of possession by a wide margin. Nicki scored a quick goal (Claire assist) to put the Wind up 1-0. Katherine made the score 2-0 when she took a cross from Rachel and put the ball in the net. Edison Park cut the lead to 2-1, but Sia made it 3-1 with Rachel again getting the assist. Edison Park cut the lead to 3-2 in the second half. The Wind dominated play and had numerous quality shots and opportunities from that point on even though they did not score the final goal until just before the final whistle when Rachel scored (Sia assist). Amanda had two saves, and Katherine had one save in goal. Noteworthy efforts were also turned in by Montana, Stephanie, Olivia and Marley.

Chicago Wind Nationals 3, Wilmette Wings 1 Needing a victory to advance to the championship game (Wilmette would have advanced on tiebreaker if the teams had tied), the Wind won 3-1. Rachel, who had a sensational game controlling play in the center of the field and displaying tremendous moves with the ball all game long, put the Wind up 1-0 in the first half (assist Stephanie). Wilmette tied the score 1-1 in the second half, but the Wind responded with two quick goals by Stephanie and Marley (assists by Claire and Sia respectively). The Wind again controlled the field of play and had the better of it in time of possession. The Wind allowed only four shots all game against a team that is moving up to the "A" division this season. Amanda had three saves in goal. Noteworthy efforts were also turned in by Montana (who again showed her toughness in responding to a hard foul by an opponent), Nicki, Olivia, Jessica and Cara.

Chicago Wind Nationals 3, HSC Green 3 (Wind wins on penalty kicks 4-3) The Wind came from behind to send the championship game to penalty kicks where they won 4-3. The Wind fell behind 1-0, then tied it up on a goal by Nicki (Katherine assist). A goal by Rachel put the Wind up 2-1 (assist Stephanie), and that was the score at halftime. HSC Green scored two goals in the second half to go up 3-2, before a goal by Nicki tied it up 3-3 (assist Marley). During regulation, Amanda made six saves and Katherine made five. The game ended with that 3-3 score and went to penalty kicks. With Katherine in goal, the Wind made four penalty kicks to HSC Green’s three to take the championship. Katherine, Stephanie, Nicki and Montana (game-winner) all converted their penalty kicks. Noteworthy efforts were also turned in by Claire, Olivia, Cara, Marley, Sia and Jessica. The girls plans to douse Tony with water to celebrate the victory were short-circuited by the fact that he had two more games to coach. Tony promised the girls they could douse him at the following Wednesday's practice.

Chicago Wind Nationals 7, Plainfield Wildcats 1 A shocking score. Plainfield had been in the "A" division for over a year and had always finished ahead of the Wind in the sandings when both teams were in the "A" division. On paper, these figured to be the two top teams in the "AB" division. Rachel exploded with four goals. Other goals were scored by Nicki, Katherine and Amanda. Stephanie had three assists and Marley had two assists. Other assists went to Olivia and Sia. Montana made two amazing goal-saving plays on defense. Amanda made nine saves and Katherine had eight. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Claire, Jessica and Cara.

Chicago Wind Nationals 2, Windy City Pride 0 The Wind completely dominated possession of the ball and had the ball in the Windy City end of the field most of the game. Rachel and Sia had goals (Olivia had an assist) in the first half when the Wind had scoring opportunities too numerous to count, but had difficulty finishing. Although the Wind had the ball in the Windy City end of the field throughout the second half they had trouble getting shots on goal against an opponent that was packing it in on defense. Amanda had two saves and Katherine had one. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Montana and Stephanie.

Chicago Wind Nationals 2 - Plainfield Wildcats 0 The Wind beat the Plainfield Wildcats 2-0 on goals by Montana and Nicki. The Wind looked like they were going to go up 1-0 when Rachel had a breakaway and placed a low, hard shot toward the far left corner of the goal, only to see the Plainfield keeper make a diving, save-of-the-year play to stop the ball from finding the back of the net. The Wind finally went up 1-0 in the first half when Amanda took the ball into the penalty box with nothing but open space between her and the goalie, only to be fouled by a Plainfield defender leading to a penalty kick that Montana converted. Katherine was extremely busy in the first half making 16 saves, several of which were tricky given the very rainy conditions. In the second half, Nicki gave the Wind breathing room with a well-placed shot into the top corner of the goal that even Plainfield's tall and talented keeper could not reach (assist to Rachel). Katherine finished the game with 21 saves. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Stephanie, Claire, Olivia and Jessica. Pictures courtesy of Bruce & Sam!

Chicago Wind Nationals 1, Orland Park Blue Angels 0 Goals were tough to come by in this night game in Orland Park. Rachel, Nicki and Stephanie all had excellent scoring chances that nonetheless failed to break the scoreless tie. Nicki finally put the ball in the net in the second half (Rachel assist). Amanda had five saves in the first half. Katherine had one save in the second half. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Montana, Claire, Stephanie and Sia.

Chicago Wind Nationals 6, Windy City Pride 0 The Wind received contributions from its entire roster in a 6-0 win over Windy City Pride. The Wind got its first goal when Sia was fouled just outside the penalty area and Montana converted the free kick. Jessica then sparked the club with two consecutive goals (assists Sia and Rachel). Claire then scored two long-range goals (assist Olivia). Rachel scored the final goal of the game (assist Nicki). Amanda made one save in the first half. Katherine was the goalie in the second half, but she faced no shots. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Cara and Marley.

Chicago Wind Nationals 2, Hoffman United 0 Nicki put the Wind up 1-0 in the first half when she put intense pressure on the Hoffman defense, stole the ball and then blasted the ball into the net from a sharp angle on the left-hand side of the goal area. Claire gave the Wind an insurance goal when she pressed up the field with the ball in the Hoffman end, pounced on a loose ball that came out off the goal box area and scored on what has become her signature play this season -- a booming, long-distance shot above the goalie's head and just underneath the crossbar. The Wind did not allow a shot on goal in the first half. Katherine made five saves in the second half. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Montana (her usual rock-solid, mistake-free effort from her sweeper position), Olivia (also a strong presence on defense), Rachel (several excellent passes late in the game that came very close to setting up goals), Jessica (several shots on goal), Marley and Stephanie (who took turns patroling the middle of the field), Sia (who provided quality energy off the bench in the first half when the Wind seemed a bit sluggish) and Cara (a solid game off the bench on defense).

Chicago Wind Nationals 3, Orland Park Blue Angels 0 The victory clinched first place in the IWSL's "AB" division. Katherine put the Wind up 1-0 in the first half (Rachel assist). The Wind controlled play throughout the first half, but the halftime score was 1-1 when the Wind's lone defensive lapse of the game led to an Orland Park goal with a minute left in the half. The Wind went up 2-1 in the second half when Orland Park allowed an own goal off of a Rachel corner kick. With very little time left to play, Nicki scored an insurance goal, which was set up by Amanda's tenacity in keeping the play alive. Katherine had five saves. Amanda had three saves.
