FC Pride 2005
G3
:
Perrysburg (Ohio) Yellow Jackets 1, Chicago Wind Nationals 0
In the semifinals, the Wind lost a heartbreaker in a defensive battle. The Wind controlled more os the play thanks to the good ball movement that Tony has been emphasizing in practices all season, but shots on goal were extremely tough to come by as Perrysburg packed in their defense with big, physical defenders. Perrysburg primarily played defense with its offense limited to the occasional counterattack. Perrysburg thought it had taken the lead when it put the ball in the net on a rebound, but the the initial shot had hit the top of the net and therefore the ensuing shot was wiped out. The Wind’s best scoring opportunity came when Katherine got off a strong shot from point blank range, but the Perrysburg goalie made a sensational save. The score was still tied 0-0 when the Wind was called for a penalty barely inside the box, which resulted in a penalty kick. The Perrysburg shooter tucked the penalty shot just inside the post for the only goal of the game. Amanda had seven saves. The entire teamput out a great effort in a hard fought, evenly matched game.
