Sun 10/23: Chicago Wind Nationals 2 - Plainfield Wildcats 0 The Wind beat the Plainfield Wildcats 2-0 on goals by Montana and Nicki. The Wind looked like they were going to go up 1-0 when Rachel had a breakaway and placed a low, hard shot toward the far left corner of the goal, only to see the Plainfield keeper make a diving, save-of-the-year play to stop the ball from finding the back of the net. The Wind finally went up 1-0 in the first half when Amanda took the ball into the penalty box with nothing but open space between her and the goalie, only to be fouled by a Plainfield defender leading to a penalty kick that Montana converted. Katherine was extremely busy in the first half making 16 saves, several of which were tricky given the very rainy conditions. In the second half, Nicki gave the Wind breathing room with a well-placed shot into the top corner of the goal that even Plainfield's tall and talented keeper could not reach (assist to Rachel). Katherine finished the game with 21 saves. Noteworthy efforts were turned in by Stephanie, Claire, Olivia and Jessica. Pictures courtesy of Bruce & Sam!
