4/8/06 Game 1
Wind 2 - Libertyville 1
Rockford, IL Spring Fling Torunament. The girls started with a win. Marley assisted on Katherine's goal and Montana converted a penalty kick earned by Claire. Jessie, Sia and Rachel all showed great hustle. Amanda and Katherine split time in goal. Olivia, Stephanie and Cara all played well despite only one outdoor practice before the game.

4/8/06 Game 2
Sockers 2 - Wind 1
Sia opened the scoring with an early break-away goal. The Wind played even for the first 15 minutes. However, the Sockers wore down the Wind and won handily.

4/9/06
Wind 2 - Cary Defenders 2
Unfortunately, the girls ended with a tie which was not enough to push them through to the playoff round.

4/22/2006
ASC Eagles 3, Chicago Wind Nationals 1
Montana scored the only goal of the game for the Wind. Amanda made 12 saves. The Wind was plagued by injuries and low energy in this game.

4/23/2006
Chicago Wind Nationals 5, Team Chicago Fireballs 1
A dramatically better effort by the Wind. The Wind led 3-0 at halftime and built a 5-0 lead before allowing a goal. Rachel scored three goals. Montana scored on a magnificent bending shot into the top corner of the net. Marley had the other goal. Assists went to Montana, Jessica and Stephanie. Amanda made seven saves. Though short-handed due to injuries, the Wind played with excellent aggression and moved the ball around extremely well. Olivia got off two magnificent shots were her left foot only to be thwarted by excellent saves. Claire had one of her best games of the season, displaying great instincts on when to attack the ball and when to hold her ground and let the play come to her. The girls sang happy birthday to Rachel after the game.

Wind 2 - Libertyville 2
On a miserably rainy day, the Wind tied Libertyville Orange 2-2. Libertyville was ranked #8 in the state of Illinois at the time by >www.nationalsoccerranking.com. The Wind got off to a great start, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rachel (assist: Stephanie). The Wind was enjoying the better of it until Libertyville scored off a well-placed through ball. Libertyville took a 2-1 second-half lead off a misplayed turnover. Rachel tied the score at 2-2, and sometime thereafter the Thor-Guard lightning sirens went off and sent the players to their cars with 13 minutes left to play. The all-clear signal never went off, and after about a half hour the referee decided to call off the rest of the game. Tony was pleased with the girls play and was disappointed the team did not get a chance to try to win the game in the remaining 13 minutes left to play. Nicki returned to action from injury.
The pictures do not do justice to how miserably cold, windy and rainy it was.

Chicago Wind 2, Wilmette Wings 0
The Wind beat the Wilmette Wings 2-0 in a game in which they moved the ball well. The Wind had the best of it in the first half, but the Wilmette goalie made a handful of remarkable saves to keep the game scoreless. Rachel put the Wind up 1-0 in the second half. The key moment of the game came when Wilmette was given a penalty kick. Tony told Amanda to choose a side and commit herself to it. Amanda guessed correctly and made the save. Sia then scored the final goal of the game (assist Stephanie). Amanda finished the game with five saves. A light moment came during warmups when the ref called Sia by the name of Sig, and Tony later called out, "Have a good game Sig." Sia took a ball to the face during the game and came away with a chipped tooth.

5/14/06
Glenview Titans 2 - Wind 1
Unfortunately, the game was not as close as the score implies. The Wind lost a high percentage of 50-50 balls as it was outhustled by a much more aggressive and physical team on this day. Glenview took a 1-0 lead when the Wind got sloppy with the ball in its own end of the field. The Wind tied it on a goal by Rachel (assist: Cara). Despite being badly outplayed in the first half, the halftime score was 1-1. Glenview took a 2-1 lead on a well-placed, arching corner kick that came down near the goalline, was misplayed by the Wind and was put into the net during a multiplayer scramble. Glenview almost took a two-goal lead, but a goal was called off on an offside call. Rachel had a couple of scoring chances on tremendous dribbling displays. Nicki got free on a semibreakaway but the defender arrived from the side just as Nicki was taking her leg back to shoot and cleared the ball out of harms way. Other than these few chances, the Wind did not put a lot of pressure on the Glenview goalie in the second half. Katherine was extremely busy in goal in this game, making 21 saves and making several effective and aggressive forays out of the goal to neutralize dangerous situations. Although the Wind struggled to win 50-50 balls, Stephanie was the rare exception, winning a lot of balls in the middle of the field.

Wind 1 - HSC Green 0

6/4/06
Lake Forest 4 - Wind 1
The Lake Forest girls were faster and stronger and the Wind just could not match up against them. It was good to see Jacqueline and Jessie again.

Strikers FV 5 - Wind 1
