Coach Grady's Report:The Deerfield Girls Soccer earned its first CSL North Championship since 2006 with a 2-2 tie against the visiting Highland Park Giants on Tuesday. Emily K got the Warriors off to a flying start when she took a pass from her sister Amanda, cut inside the defender, and ripped a shot into the far corner for a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Four minutes later, JoElla and Amanda K combined on a neat passing sequence to find Hannah, who fired a shot from 25 yards out that beat the keeper in the upper corner for a 2-0 lead. The Giants got one back off a corner kick in the 28th minute, and tied it on a long shot in the 47th minute. The Giants pressed for the goal that would give them the title, but the Warriors held firm, with keeper Bailey making some fine saves. With less than a minute left, the Giants got a ball by Bailey, but it hit the post and was cleared off the line after a scramble, and the Warriors had the point they needed to win the conference with a 3-0-2 mark, while Highland Park and Glenbrook North tied for 2nd with a 2-0-3 record.
