7-28: Five Loons
Exciting Loon activity.
Per Ashley Keenan of the Loon Preservation Committee, "We have a pair of Loons that hangs around Hurricane and Whortleberry island. This pair had two chicks however somehow it ended up taking in a third chick. Crazy and rare, they tend to be by Whortleberry and between hurricane and long island. "

So, of course I headed to Whortleberry Island. My first visit turned up one adult and one chick. Returning earlier on the next day, I found Loon magic - both adults feeding all 3 chicks right near my boat for about an hour. Some nice pic's and videos to share. (Videos will be posted later, 7/289/24 -mm)

8-25: Three Loons
Same spot as the family of 5 a month ago. Only 3 today. Sad.

9/7: Loons at Mink & Whortleberry Islands
LPC told me a while ago about a chick adopted by a Loon pair nesting at Mink Island. I finally found the chick and one parent between Mark & Timber Islands today.
Then I went to check on the family nesting near Whortleberry Island that was raising 3 chicks. Today, I only saw 2 adults, and no chick after about an hour of watching. But I did see them react strongly to an eagle (or other type of hawk) overhead.

9/9: Winter Harbor Loon
Single picture of Loon with leg band showing

9/15: Whortleberry Island Loons
Saw the two Whortleberry Island chicks again. Yeah!

9/22: Sunday Morning Loons
First day of fall. Ride began with sighting of a juvenile Bald Eagle in Winter Harbor. The Loons near me were not happy.
Headed to Mink Island adopted loon family. Saw the adult and chick. Yeah! Adult came up with a huge fish, which I never did see get swallowed.
Then headed to Whortleberry Island and saw the adult and 2 chicks.

9/27 & 28:
Fall is here, but Mark still getting in a swim.
Mark, Lee & dogs drive north looking for fall colors - too early.

9/29: Loons
Mark joined friend Glenn kayaking on Crescent Lake and Lake Wentworth. Spotted loon family.
Later in the day M, L & dogs found the loon family at Whortleberry Island.

9/29: M & L & Dogs
